What Does a Group Trip to Canterbury Christmas Market Involve?
Most of the planning comes down to choosing a day, picking the right size of vehicle and agreeing a collection time. The 2026 market is open every day between Thursday 12 November and Christmas Eve, entry is free, coaches set down in St George’s Lane in front of Whitefriars, and the city coach park is about a ten-minute riverside walk from the centre.
JRP Direct runs minibuses and coaches from Buttons Farm in Cross in Hand, near Heathfield, and the office can help with each of those decisions when you ask for a quote.
When Is Canterbury Christmas Market 2026?
Canterbury Christmas Market 2026 runs every day between Thursday 12 November and Thursday 24 December, a total of 43 days. The market is free to visit and no tickets are needed, apart from bookable activities such as Santa’s Grotto and Breakfast with Santa.
According to the official Canterbury Christmas Market website, the stalls open between 10am and 6pm on weekdays, between 9am and 7pm on Saturdays and between 10am and 5pm on Sundays. On Christmas Eve the market closes at 4pm. Live music plays on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the city’s Christmas lights are switched on on Friday 13 November, and Santa’s Grotto opens on Saturday 28 November on selected dates. The organisers add events and late opening nights to their What’s On page as they are confirmed, so it is worth checking before you fix a date.
Where Is the Market in Canterbury?
The market is spread across three areas, all inside the old city walls. These are Whitefriars Shopping Centre and the Marlowe Arcade, St George’s Street (the High Street) and the Cathedral Precincts.
Whitefriars and St George’s Street are about a minute apart, and the Cathedral Precincts are a few minutes’ walk away along The Parade and Mercery Lane. The organisers describe it as the largest Christmas market in Kent, with more than 120 traditional wooden huts and 172 stallholders this year. For a group, it helps to agree one meeting point before everyone splits up, as the three areas are close together but busy.
