About the role

We are looking for a dependable, experienced coach driver to join the team at JRP Direct, based at Buttons Farm in Cross in Hand near Heathfield. The rate is £15.60 an hour, which comes to £40,500 or more a year on a 50-hour contract, plus a £30 weekend bonus. Full-time, part-time and zero-hours positions are all available.

You will need a valid UK PSV licence (category D) and a current CPC. You will be driving everything from 16-seater minibuses to full-size coaches on school runs, group outings and jobs across the UK.

Pay and benefits

The rate is £15.60 per hour, equivalent to £40,500 or more a year on a 50-hour contract, with a £30 bonus for weekend work on top of the hourly rate.

What the job involves

The core of the job is getting passengers where they need to be safely and on time, with the standard of customer service you would want your own family to get. Day to day, that means:

Driving and operating the vehicle safely, within all traffic laws and regulations
Carrying out pre-journey and post-journey inspections to confirm the vehicle is roadworthy
Keeping passengers informed about routes, timings and any delays or changes
Keeping the vehicle clean and tidy inside and out
Reporting any mechanical fault or maintenance need promptly to the right person
Working with the rest of the team so the day’s work runs properly

Our passengers include local schools, group outings and private hire jobs the length of the country, so no two weeks look quite the same.

What we are looking for

You will need:

A valid UK PSV licence, category D
A valid CPC
A digital tachograph card, preferred but not essential
Willingness to undergo an enhanced DBS check, as you will be transporting children
Previous coach driving experience, preferred, ideally at least a year
Good local knowledge and the ability to plan your own routes
Clear, straightforward communication with passengers and colleagues
A genuine commitment to safety and to looking after the people on board

Where you would be based

The yard is at Buttons Farm, Meres Lane, Cross in Hand, Heathfield, East Sussex, with parking on site. Work is centred on Sussex and Kent, including regular runs to Gatwick and Heathrow, with jobs further afield across the UK. This is an in-person role.
