How much does coach hire to Thorpe Park cost?

Coach hire to Thorpe Park is quoted per vehicle for the whole day rather than per passenger, so the price depends on the size of vehicle you need, where we collect from and how long the day runs. A 16-seater minibus from Heathfield costs considerably less than a 70-seater coach from the far side of Kent, and a group that wants to stay until the park closes needs more driver time than one leaving at four.

The main things that affect the price are:

  • Group size, which sets the vehicle
  • Pickup point and how far it is from our base in Heathfield
  • Total hours from first pickup to final drop-off
  • Date, since summer term and school holidays are the busiest weeks of the year
  • Extras such as a trailer, Wi-Fi or a second vehicle for a full year group

Every quote is written down before you commit, with no charges added afterwards. Tell us the date, the numbers and the pickup point and we will come back with a figure you can take to the school office.

Which minibus or coach suits your Thorpe Park group?

Where we can, we put the whole group in one vehicle. Splitting a school party across two coaches means doing head counts twice at every stop, which most teachers would rather avoid.

For a small group of 10 to 16, our 16-seater minibus is the practical choice. It has reclining aisle seats, armrests, individual reading lights, air conditioning and overhead luggage racks, with ISOFIX points available where younger children are travelling. For a slightly larger group wanting more comfort on the M25, the 19-seater executive minibus offers a higher specification finish.

For a class or a year group you will need a coach. Our 34 and 35-seater team coaches suit a single class with staff. The 49-seater executive coach and the 53 to 57-seater vehicles cover most whole year groups, and the 71 to 73-seater school coaches handle the largest parties in one go. A wheelchair-accessible coach is available on request so that a pupil using a wheelchair travels with everyone else rather than following behind in a separate car.

If you are unsure which size to book, tell us the number of pupils and the number of staff and we will tell you what fits.

Coach parking and drop-off at Thorpe Park

Thorpe Park Resort has a dedicated coach park, and the resort states that coaches and minibuses seating more than 12 passengers park free of charge in the gravel coach park on the right as you enter the car park area. The drop-off and pick-up point is at the main entrance, so pupils step off the coach close to admissions rather than crossing any public road. School parties are fast-tracked through admissions where the resort is able to do so.

There are two things worth sorting before the day. School bookings include coach and minibus parking tickets, which the school arranges when it books the trip rather than something the coach operator can sort out at the barrier. Our driver may be asked to show a daily job sheet or ID at the gate, which we carry as standard.

At collection time the resort asks vehicles to keep waiting to around 30 minutes to stop traffic building at the entrance. That is rarely a problem as long as the pick-up time is agreed beforehand and everyone knows where to meet. We will go over that with you when the booking is confirmed.

The resort also warns that some sat navs read the KT16 8PN postcode and send drivers to Norlands Lane instead of the entrance. Our drivers know to follow the A320 and look for the rollercoaster track over the main entrance on Staines Road.

What time should the coach leave?

It is best to work back from the park’s opening time. Thorpe Park is roughly 20 miles from central London on the western side of the M25, and the approach from East Sussex runs up the A22 and round the motorway, so the stretch between junctions 6 and 11 is where delays tend to happen.

For a full day in the park from an East Sussex pickup, an early start gets you there for opening and leaves room for hold-ups on the motorway. We will suggest a departure time when we quote, based on your pickup point and the opening time for your date.

We arrive at the pickup point 15 minutes before the scheduled departure as standard, so the coach is already there when your group comes out.

Late finishes and drivers’ hours

Plenty of groups want to stay until the park closes, which is fine. Drivers’ hours rules limit how long a driver can spend at the wheel and how long the working day can run, so we work those limits into the itinerary before you book.

If the day you want is longer than one driver can legally cover, we will say so at the quote stage and set out the options, usually either an adjusted return time or a second driver. We would rather sort that out then than on the morning of the trip.

Safety and paperwork for school trips

Every JRP Direct driver holds an enhanced DBS check, updated regularly. Every vehicle carries onboard CCTV with audio recording and live tracking, and the fleet is fitted with breathalyser ignition systems. Vehicles are cleaned thoroughly before each journey and maintained to high operational standards, and all vehicles are ULEZ-compliant.

We are used to the paperwork side of school travel. We can supply risk assessments, driver and vehicle documentation and insurance details, along with anything else the school office needs before the head teacher signs the trip off. The same standards apply across all our minibus hire with driver for school trips.

Where we collect from

We are based at Buttons Farm in Cross in Hand, Heathfield, and we collect from anywhere in Sussex and Kent. Common Thorpe Park pickups include Heathfield, Uckfield, Crowborough, Lewes, Eastbourne, Hastings, Battle, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Sevenoaks and Maidstone, along with schools across the Wealden and Rother districts. The same fleet covers our wider coach hire in Sussex and coach hire in Kent work.

If your school is outside those towns it is still worth asking. We know most of the narrow driveways and tight turning circles round here, and where we are not sure we will check the access beforehand rather than turn up in a 53-seater that cannot get in.

We run the same sort of day out to other venues too. Younger year groups usually head for Drusillas Park near Alfriston, and through the football season we take supporters’ groups to the Amex Stadium at Falmer.

Common questions about coach hire to Thorpe Park

Is coach parking free at Thorpe Park?

Thorpe Park Resort states that coaches and minibuses seating over 12 passengers park free of charge in the coach park. For school bookings, parking tickets are arranged by the school at the time it books the trip. Confirm the current arrangement with the resort when you book your tickets.

Can you take a whole year group in one vehicle?

Yes, in most cases. Our largest school coaches seat 71 to 73 passengers. For very large year groups we run two or more vehicles in convoy so the party arrives together.

Do you offer minibus hire to Thorpe Park for smaller groups?

Yes. A 16-seater minibus or a 19-seater executive minibus covers groups of roughly 10 to 19 passengers, which suits a small class, a sixth form group, a youth club or a birthday party.

Does the driver stay at the park all day?

Yes. The driver stays with the vehicle in the coach park for the duration of the visit, so if something changes you have someone to call.

Can you carry wheelchair users?

Yes. A wheelchair-accessible coach is available on request, and accessibility equipment is checked as part of our pre-journey routine. Tell us at the quote stage so the right vehicle is allocated.

How far in advance should we book?

As early as you can for the summer term and the school holidays, which are the busiest weeks for theme park trips.
